Dr. Adam Levin
I received my doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. I was a premed student and received a degree in Communication Studies from Northwestern University.
Since 2004, I have been supporting individuals and families on the North Shore who desire to feel more ease, to overcome challenges, and to grow. I am focused on understanding the root cause of the issues that people face and the opportunity connected to that issue. I use a variety of approaches to address the cause of the client’s difficulty and to implement concrete skills for improving well-being.
I have an integrated approach to therapy informed by my ongoing study of Clinical Psychology, Chinese Medicine, personal growth work, and meditation. I am told that I have a calming presence that helps others feel safe. In this safety, we are able to address challenges. I am inspired by the “projects” my clients work on. I believe that challenges are growth opportunities and that in the right space, these challenges can lead to self-improvement and greater satisfaction with life. I love when a client learns something new or appreciates themselves in a deeper way.
I feel inspired by my clients who take the risk of showing their authentic selves with the hope of feeling better. I am fueled by the possibility of self-improvement. I regularly thank my clients for including me in their truth, their struggle, and their growth.
One of my areas of specialty is working with parents on parenting skills either as a parenting coach or in tandem with individual work with their children. I appreciate parents who recognize that children give us a chance to become better versions of ourselves. I teach skills about how to handle discipline issues, address family conflicts, and meet the emotional needs of children. I have been a participant at Parent University in Northbrook and created a parenting series for Whole Foods. I have been invited as a parenting expert to the Chicago Children’s Museum’s “No Kids Allowed” parent education event. I am a certified instructor of the Parent Effectiveness Training (P.E.T.) program and facilitate workshops on parenting skills.
I work with people on issues ranging from feeling more ease and self-acceptance to depression, anxiety, ADHD, school challenges, behavior issues, sports performance, and parent-child difficulties. I work with the entire family including adults, adolescents, and children. I work with all genders and see many males who are looking to do this work with a male psychologist. I have been practicing yoga and meditation for over 30 years and studied Chinese Medicine/Acupuncture at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine to deepen my understanding of holistic treatment. In my free time, I enjoy my family, play sports with my adolescent boys, and study human potential.
